A Starry Tradition at the Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon Star Party is back for 2025, inviting stargazers to experience one of the best dark sky events in the country. From June 21 to June 28, astronomy fans from around the world will gather for a full week of cosmic wonders. Attending the Star Party is free, but visitors will need a park entrance pass priced between $20 and $35. The pass covers both the North and South Rims for seven days, giving plenty of time to explore the park alongside the stars.
Perfect Stargazing Conditions
With the moon in its Waning Crescent phase and a New Moon on June 25, conditions couldn’t be better for clear, dark skies. Whether you come early or late in the week, the stars will be waiting.
On the North Rim, presentations start at 7:30 p.m. at the North Rim Lodge Auditorium. The South Rim kicks off at 8 p.m. in front of the Visitor Center. Telescopes will be available every night, with constellation tours offered at 9, 9:30, and 10 p.m.

Plan Ahead
Shuttles stop running at 9:30 p.m., so if you plan to stay for the best views after 9 p.m., driving your own car is the way to go. Parking is available in Lots 1-4. Be prepared with red lights to protect night vision, warm clothing for chilly nights, and blankets or chairs for comfort. Most telescopes pack up by 11 p.m., but some astronomers stay out longer.
Night photography is encouraged, whether using a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or even a smartphone with Night Mode. A tripod, wide aperture, and long exposure will help capture stunning shots.
